Pepper sends many thanks everyday to those who watch over the mundane Earth.
She is, of course, talking about the Spirits depicted by the dusty tome that belong to her closest ancestor. And from the stories Uncle (sort of) told her. They were very important! And there were many of them, for each different things- the most important, of course, being the Sun. The Sun made everything. Kept everything in balance. Was everything, though there were others too, who had shaped the world. She remembers all the stories she was told, either by her guardian, or when her new friends read them out loud- she liked that the most.
She can't really remember the names of all of them, but she remembers where exactly to send the thanks to. There was one for luck- thanked when she was not caught when sneaking out in the open. One for the winds and the temperature, when the weather was fair and the snow had thawed. And one, specifically, for a hunt, and a collective amount for when you took another creature's life to fill your stomach. She thanks them now in this case, as she scrapes the soft flesh of fish right off the bone. And thanks them for the other creature she'd eaten before the fish, bones and remaining skin laying in the hot sun.
Pepper rests her head on the brick of an alleyway wall. It's a quiet day, and she had taken the chance in hopes of seeing a familiar face. Such hopes were not fulfilled, but other, just as satisfying ones were when she saw a collared animal and a little booth all unattended. What a stroke of good fortune! Whilst she sucks lazily on the bones of fish. While doing so, she peeks at the half-hidden sun, light just peeking through. Images flash through her mind. Arrow tips, rabbit's feet, hills upon hills upon hills. And, of course, shadows mangled and gnarled and withering. She does not linger on such thoughts.
She wonders what the Spirits were like- great, of course. Powerful. But did they feel as those here did? She ponders this for a while, before her she catches the sound of something not far off.
